What is light-converting plastic sheeting for greenhouse?
Light-converting plastic sheeting is a functional agricultural film developed based on the properties of rare earth elements. It is mainly used in protected agriculture (such as greenhouses and sheds). By regulating the spectral distribution of sunlight, it optimizes the plant growth environment, thereby improving crop yield and quality.
The key to rare earth light-converting plastic sheeting lies in the rare earth light converters added to them (usually organic or inorganic compounds of rare earth elements, such as complexes of europium, terbium, neodymium, etc.). Such substances can absorb parts of the solar spectrum that have weak effects on plant growth (e.g., ultraviolet light and part of green light) and convert them into red-orange light or blue-violet light, which are most needed for plant photosynthesis (plant chlorophyll mainly absorbs light in these two wavelength bands for photosynthesis).
